SEOUL CELTIC FC (South-Korea) |

Country: South-Korea
City: Seoul
Team Color: Green and White Hoops
Captain: Kieran McKeown
Players: Ireland, England, Morocco, Canada, USA.

Seoul Celtic, like many great things, was immaculately conceived between two men in a pub. It's initial purpose was to support a chat-up strategy in which two Irish bar flies posed as Captain and Manager of an imaginary team amid the pandemonium of the World Cup of 2002. One of those intrepid lounge lizards, Kieran McKeown, still remains in Korea and heads the Celtic party in this their inaugural international footballing jaunt - though his goalkeeping gloves would be more likely to be found in a CSI lab than a penalty box these days. The nucleus of the current team are aging as gracelessly as they can, and several will be stopping off at the Bangkok Hospital to have their receding hairlines tended to. Many players from twenty different nationalities have played for Celtic in the past eight years. And just in case of an early exit from the tournament, some patsies from SBFC are being brought along on tour, should any blame need to be laid. And although we have finally managed to get a cup or two into the trophy cabinet, we judge our seasons and players by a higher bar - how many bodies we drag back to Scrooge Pub in Itaewon after our games, and the level of humorous torment you can endure or inflict. Lock up your drinks cabinets, the Celts are coming. |

Our team represents the uniting of Shane worlds from Taiwan, Japan and China - Shane FC of the Tokyo Metropolis league, The Mighty Shane FC of the Carnegies Premier league in Taipei and Shane English teachers from China. Our squad is also made up of friends and family from Shanghai and London. In June last year 15 Shane teachers / players from Japan made the trip over to Taipei to play against The Mighty Shane FC in the inaugural Shane Cup match. The aim of the trip was to build bridges between both teams and our team here in Phuket is an extension of this aim. The ethos of any Shane team is to hit it hard both on and off the pitch and most importantly make friends along the way - Footy and Razzle hand and hand!
